How conversion works

Your image is decoded locally (HEIC files use a bundled decoder), drawn to a canvas at full resolution, then re-encoded to the format you pick. JPG, WebP and AVIF honor the quality slider; PNG and BMP are lossless. A side-by-side preview shows the original next to the converted result before you download.

Format support notes

AVIF encoding works in Chromium-based browsers; other browsers will show a clear note and you can pick WebP instead. GIF output uses an on-demand encoder loaded from a CDN, so it needs a network connection. Transparency is preserved for PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF; JPG flattens it onto white.

Image Converter FAQs

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens 100% in your browser via the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
Why is AVIF missing or disabled?
Only Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera) can encode AVIF via canvas. In Firefox or Safari the option is disabled with an explanatory note — use WebP for similar compression.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Yes. HEIC/HEIF files are decoded locally with a bundled decoder, then converted like any other image.
Does converting reduce quality?
Lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF) lose a little detail depending on the quality slider. PNG and BMP are lossless. Converting from a lossy source to another lossy format compounds the loss slightly.
Is there a file size limit?
No hard limit, but very large images (50+ megapixels) may be slow or run out of memory on low-end devices. For typical photos it is instant.
