Higher quality means a bigger file.
Good to know: AVIF encoding needs a modern browser like Chrome, Edge or Firefox. If conversion fails, your browser may not support AVIF output yet.

How AVIF shrinks your image
AVIF is built on the AV1 video codec's still-image mode, the same technology behind modern streaming video. It compresses photos far more aggressively than JPG or PNG: expect files roughly half the size of JPG at similar visual quality, plus support for transparency and wide color.
What happens when you convert
Your SVG file is decoded locally, drawn to a canvas, then re-encoded as AVIF at your chosen quality setting. Nothing is uploaded: the whole pipeline runs inside this page, and the download starts the moment encoding finishes.
AVIF uses modern AV1 compression, so files are often 50 percent smaller than JPG and far smaller than PNG at similar visual quality. That means faster page loads and less storage.
Will I lose quality converting to AVIF?
Very little. AVIF is lossy, but at the default 90 percent quality the result looks nearly identical to the SVG original while the file shrinks dramatically.
Does AVIF support transparency?
Your source has no transparency, so the AVIF gets a solid background.
Which browsers open AVIF?
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Safari 16 and newer display AVIF. Older browsers do not, so keep the original SVG as a fallback for maximum compatibility.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with local code. Your files never leave your device.
