How target size mode works

Set a target like 100KB and the tool tries several quality levels, narrowing in on the highest quality that still fits under your target. It works best with JPEG or WebP output, since PNG is lossless and its size barely moves with quality.

Tips for smaller files

  • Photos: JPEG at 70 to 80% looks nearly identical and is much smaller.
  • WebP: usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPEG at the same quality.
  • Dimensions stay the same: compression only changes quality, never width or height.
  • Forms and uploads: target 100KB to 200KB to pass most file limits.

Image compressor FAQs

How does the target size mode work?
Pick a target like 100KB and the tool tries different quality levels, narrowing down until it finds the highest quality that fits under your target. It runs entirely in your browser.
Will compressing change my image dimensions?
No. Compression only reduces the quality level, never the width or height. Your 4000x3000 photo stays 4000x3000, just with a smaller file.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is drawn to a canvas and re-encoded locally in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
Which output format should I choose?
JPEG is best for photos, WebP usually gives the smallest files for the same quality, and PNG is best for graphics with sharp edges or transparency but compresses very little.
Why does my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so the quality slider does almost nothing for it. For big savings, convert the PNG to JPEG or WebP instead.
