Reading an ICO container
An ICO file can hide many images: different sizes, PNG-compressed or classic BMP entries, plus transparency masks. This tool inspects every entry, picks the largest one, and decodes it, handling both modern PNG-based and legacy DIB entries.
What happens when you convert
The biggest icon inside your ICO is extracted and re-encoded as WebP in the browser. Transparency is kept when WebP supports it, and the original pixel dimensions are preserved.
The tool reads every size stored in the ICO and converts the largest one, so you get the highest-resolution version available.
What if my ICO has PNG-compressed images inside?
That is handled. Modern ICO files often store PNG data per size, and the tool decodes those directly. Classic BMP-based entries are decoded too.
Will transparency survive?
Yes when the target supports it. Icons usually have transparent backgrounds, and the alpha channel is preserved for PNG and WebP output. JPG and BMP flatten it to white.
Why is the output so small?
Icons are tiny by design, often 256 by 256 pixels at most. Upscaling is not applied, so the WebP keeps the icon's original pixel dimensions.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with local code. Your files never leave your device.
