Reading your ROAS

ROAS of 4.0x means every $1 of ads produced $4 of revenue. But revenue is not profit: with a 25% product margin, a 4.0x ROAS exactly breaks even (1 / 0.25 = 4). Profitable advertising needs ROAS above 1 divided by your margin.

ROAS vs ROI

ROAS measures gross revenue per ad dollar and ignores product costs. ROI subtracts all costs. Use ROAS to compare campaigns and ad sets against each other, and ROI or net profit to judge the business result.

ROAS Calculator FAQs

How do you calculate ROAS?
Divide revenue attributed to ads by ad spend. $2,500 revenue from $500 spend is a 5.0x ROAS, or 500%.
What is a good ROAS?
It depends on margin: a common rule is ROAS above 4.0x for e-commerce. The real target is 1 / your profit margin, so a 30% margin needs at least 3.33x to break even.
What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?
ROAS = revenue / ad spend (gross, ad costs only). ROI = (profit) / total cost. ROAS is for comparing ad efficiency; ROI is for business profitability.
Can ROAS be below 1?
Yes, and it means the campaign loses money on revenue alone: a 0.8x ROAS returns only $0.80 per $1 spent. Pause or fix targeting, creative or offer.
