Margin vs markup

Margin is profit as a share of the selling price; markup is profit as a share of cost. A 30% markup on a $50 cost gives $65, while a 30% margin needs a $71.43 price. Mixing them up is the most common pricing mistake, so the tool keeps both visible.

Tax and discount order

Discount applies first to the base price, then tax is added on the discounted amount, matching how most checkouts work. The line also shows the pre-tax price so you can quote cleanly.

Product Pricing Calc FAQs

What is a healthy margin?
It depends on the industry: groceries run single digits, software can exceed 70%. Cover costs first, then compare with competitors.
Why is margin capped below 100%?
A 100% margin would mean zero cost, and above 100% is impossible. If your number is higher, you probably mean markup.
Should tax be included in the price?
Some regions quote tax-inclusive prices, others add it at checkout. The tool shows both so you can quote either way.
Does it handle bulk pricing?
Per-unit math scales linearly: multiply the profit per unit by quantity for order totals.
