Formulas: final = price x (1 - d1/100) x (1 - d2/100). Stacked discounts multiply, they never simply add.

Why stacked discounts do not add up

A 20% discount followed by 10% is not 30% off. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: $100 becomes $80, then $72. The true combined discount is 28%, and the gap grows with bigger percentages.

Where double discounts appear

Retailers stack a sale price with a coupon, voucher or member discount. Suppliers quote trade discounts like 20% + 5% + 2%. Entering each layer here shows the real price before you commit.

Double Discount Calc FAQs

Is 20% + 10% the same as 30% off?
No. $100 with 20% then 10% off costs $72, which is 28% off total. Stacked discounts multiply: 0.80 x 0.90 = 0.72, so you pay 72% of the original price.
Does the order of the discounts matter?
No. 20% then 10% gives the same final price as 10% then 20%, because multiplication is commutative. The combined discount is identical either way.
How do you calculate successive discounts?
Convert each discount to its multiplier (20% off = 0.80), multiply them all, then multiply by the price. For 20% and 10%: 0.80 x 0.90 x $100 = $72.
What is the single equivalent discount?
It is shown as Combined discount above: 1 minus the product of the multipliers, times 100. Use it to compare a stacked offer against a flat percentage.
