How it works

Enter the package length, width and height plus your unit system. The tool divides the volume by the carrier's DIM divisor (5000 for international air in cm, 139 or 166 for US domestic in inches) to get the dimensional weight, then compares it with the actual weight if you provide one. The billable weight is whichever is greater: that is what the courier charges.

Why DIM weight exists

Couriers charge for the space a package takes up, not just how heavy it is. A big box of pillows costs more to fly than a small box of books at the same weight. Knowing the DIM weight before you ship helps you pick the right box size and avoid surprise surcharges.

Dimensional Weight FAQs

What is dimensional weight?
A pricing weight based on package volume: (length x width x height) divided by a carrier divisor. It reflects the space your package occupies in a truck or plane.
Which divisor should I use?
5000 for international air freight in centimeters, 6000 for many express couriers, or 139/166 for US domestic shipments in inches. Check your carrier's rate card.
Do couriers use DIM or actual weight?
Whichever is greater. If your package is light but bulky, DIM weight applies; if it is small and heavy, actual weight applies.
How can I lower my shipping cost?
Use the smallest box that fits, since DIM weight grows with volume. The calculator shows how each centimeter affects the billable weight.
