How the planner works

Add one row per income source and one per expense, then type the monthly amounts. Totals, remaining balance, and your savings rate update live with every keystroke, and the bar shows expenses as a share of income.

Rows can be added or removed freely, so the planner fits anything from a student budget to a household with many categories.

Reading your savings rate

The savings rate is the share of income left after expenses. The classic 50/30/20 guideline suggests aiming for 20% saved, and the summary tells you whether you are there.

If the bar turns red, expenses exceed income, which means the budget does not balance and something has to give.

Budget Planner FAQs

Should I enter gross or net income?
Net (take-home) income gives the most realistic budget, since that is the money you actually have to spend and save.
What time period should amounts cover?
Monthly. If a bill is yearly, divide by 12; if weekly, multiply by about 4.33 to keep everything comparable.
What is a good savings rate?
20% is the common rule of thumb, but any positive rate builds momentum. Start where you are and raise it gradually.
Is my budget data saved?
No. Everything lives in the page while it is open and disappears on refresh. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
Can I use a different currency?
The $ sign is just a label; type amounts in any currency and the math works the same.
