What metadata is shown

The tool reads the file's own properties (name, size, type, last-modified date) plus everything the browser decodes from the video header: duration, frame resolution, aspect ratio and an estimated overall bitrate computed from file size and duration. A preview player is included so you can confirm the file plays.

Privacy by design

Video files can be huge, so uploading them just to read metadata would be slow and wasteful. This viewer uses the browser's media engine locally, which means your footage never leaves your device and there is no size limit beyond your device's memory.

Video Metadata Viewer FAQs

Which video formats are supported?
Anything your browser can decode: MP4/H.264, WebM/VP9, MOV and more. If the preview player cannot open the file, its metadata cannot be read either.
Why is the bitrate only an estimate?
Browsers do not expose the true encoded bitrate, so the tool divides total file size by duration. It is accurate for constant-bitrate files and a good approximation otherwise.
Can I see the codec, like H.264 vs HEVC?
Browsers hide codec details from web pages, so only the container type (for example video/mp4) is shown. For deep codec inspection you need a desktop tool like MediaInfo.
Does it work with very large files?
Yes. Metadata is read from the file header without loading the whole video into memory, so even multi-gigabyte files inspect in seconds.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
Never. The file is opened with a local object URL inside your tab and is discarded when you leave the page.
