Logarithmic pitch slider

Hearing is logarithmic: the jump from 100 to 200 Hz sounds as big as 1000 to 2000 Hz. The slider maps exponentially so each millimeter of drag changes the perceived pitch evenly, with fine control down low where it matters most.

Waveforms compared

Sine is a pure single pitch. Triangle adds soft harmonics, square sounds hollow and buzzy, and sawtooth is bright and harsh. Use sine for hearing tests and square or sawtooth to stress-test speakers.

Tone Generator FAQs

What is the range of human hearing?
Roughly 20 Hz to 20000 Hz in young listeners. High-frequency hearing fades with age; most adults over 40 cannot hear much above 14000 Hz.
Why start at low volume?
High-pitched tones and square waves concentrate energy uncomfortably. Start at 20 to 30% volume and raise slowly.
Can this damage my speakers?
At normal volumes, no. Avoid maximum volume with low bass tones on small phone speakers, which can distort.
What is the sweep for?
The 8-second sweep glides from 20 Hz to 20000 Hz so you can hear dropouts, rattles, or resonances across your speaker's whole range.
Does this need an internet connection after loading?
No. Tones are synthesized with the Web Audio API entirely on your device.
