Temperature Converter
Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine. Every conversion shows the exact formula used, with live results as you type.
How temperature conversion works
Unlike other units, temperature scales have different zero points, so conversion needs an offset plus a scale factor. Fahrenheit and Rankine use 9/5 scaling with a 32-degree offset; Kelvin and Rankine are absolute scales that start at absolute zero.
The four scales
Celsius sets water freezing at 0 and boiling at 100. Fahrenheit (freezing 32, boiling 212) is standard in the US. Kelvin starts at absolute zero (-273.15 C) for science. Rankine is the absolute version of Fahrenheit, used in some US engineering.
