How volume is computed

Volume is length times width times height, converted to liters, US gallons and cubic feet. The fit calculator tries all six orientations of your item inside the container and reports the best count, which is the same math movers use when packing trucks.

Measure inside, not outside

Enter interior dimensions for an accurate usable volume. Box walls, especially on plastic totes and thick cardboard, can steal several liters from the advertised outside size.

Storage Volume Calc FAQs

Liters or gallons, which should I trust?
Both come from the same measurement; liters are standard for storage worldwide, while US gallons help when comparing with American products. The tool shows both so you never convert by hand.
Why does the fit count seem low?
It packs a perfect grid with no partial boxes and no rotation beyond 90 degrees. Real packing with soft items often beats the grid, while fragile items needing padding fit fewer.
Can I use this for moving truck space?
For rough estimates, yes: compute each box's volume and sum them, then compare with the truck's cargo volume. Leave 15-20% headroom because boxes never tile a truck perfectly.
Does it account for the box's own weight?
No, volume only. For shipping cost estimates you also need dimensional weight, which carriers compute from the same LxWxH numbers.
Inches or centimeters?
Either. Pick your unit once and enter all six numbers in it; the conversions to liters, gallons and cubic feet are automatic.
