What this tool unlocks

Many PDFs carry an owner password that blocks printing, copying text or editing, even though the file opens freely. This tool re-saves the document without those restrictions. If the PDF instead demands a password just to open (a user password), enter it in the password field and the tool will use it to unlock the file.

Processing is fully client-side: your document is never uploaded.

Only for files you own

Use this tool only on PDFs you own or have explicit rights to modify, such as your own exports, bank statements or documents shared with you for editing. Bypassing protection on files you have no rights to may break the law where you live.

Note: client-side unlocking cannot break strong unknown user passwords; it removes restrictions, it does not crack passwords.

PDF Unlock Tool FAQs

Is it legal to unlock a PDF?
Unlocking a PDF you own or have rights to modify, for example your own exports or statements, is fine. Do not use it to bypass protection on files you have no rights to.
Do I need the password?
Only if the PDF demands one to open. Owner-password restrictions (no printing, no copying) usually unlock without any password. If the file asks for a password on open, type it in the password field.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened and re-saved entirely inside your browser. Nothing is transmitted to any server.
Can this crack a forgotten PDF password?
No. This tool removes restrictions; it cannot guess or brute-force an unknown user password. If you forgot the open password, you will need the correct one.
Why did unlocking fail?
The file may use strong encryption this browser library cannot parse, or it may be corrupted. Try opening it in a desktop PDF reader first to confirm it is valid, then retry with the correct password.
