How extraction works

The tool renders each page with PDF.js and reads the document's text layer, preserving line breaks and page order. The result appears in the text box with a page marker, ready to copy or download as a plain .txt file.

About scanned PDFs

Extraction only works when the PDF actually contains text. Scanned image-only PDFs have no text layer, so nothing can be extracted; those files need OCR software first. Password-protected PDFs also cannot be opened here.

PDF to Text Extractor FAQs

Why is my extracted text empty?
The PDF is probably a scanned image without a text layer. Try opening it in a PDF reader: if you cannot select the text there, extraction is impossible without OCR.
Does formatting survive the extraction?
No. You get plain text with line breaks. Fonts, colors, tables and images are not preserved.
Can it handle large PDFs?
Yes, within browser memory limits. Very large documents may take a while; extraction runs page by page.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted files that require a password cannot be opened by this tool.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is processed entirely in your browser and never sent to a server.
