What gets stamped

Every page of your PDF receives a small page number in a clean sans-serif font, placed at the position you choose. The original content, layout, and quality of the PDF are left untouched; only the numbers are added on top.

You can start numbering at any number, which is handy for appendices or split documents, and choose between a bare number, a fraction style, or the full Page X of Y format.

Limits to know

Page numbers are drawn as new text objects, so they sit above the page content and cannot be moved later without re-running the tool. Very small pages or pages with dark backgrounds at the stamp position may make the gray numbers hard to read.

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first; the tool cannot modify encrypted files.

PDF Page Numbering FAQs

Will numbering change my PDF layout?
No. The numbers are stamped on top of each page as small text. Margins, fonts, images, and pagination of the original document stay exactly the same.
Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?
Yes. Set the start number to anything you like, for example 5 if your PDF is the second half of a split document.
Where exactly do the numbers appear?
Pick from six positions: bottom or top, aligned left, center, or right. Bottom center is the classic choice for reports and ebooks.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes for stamping, because the numbers are drawn as new objects on each page. The tool does not need to read existing text to add numbers.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is processed entirely in your browser with a local PDF library, so your documents never leave your device.
