What PDF metadata is

Every PDF can carry invisible properties: a title, author, subject, keywords, the app that created it, and creation and modification dates. Publishers and scanners fill these in automatically, and they are what search tools and document managers use to describe the file. This viewer reads them straight from the file's document catalog.

Why the metadata matters

Checking metadata helps you verify where a PDF came from, when it was made, and whether it still carries the author's name before you share it. If you publish PDFs, complete metadata (especially title and author) also helps search engines describe your document correctly.

PDF Metadata Viewer FAQs

Which metadata fields can this tool read?
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator application, producer, creation date, modification date and page count, plus the file name and size.
Why do some fields show as (not set)?
Metadata is optional. Many PDFs, especially scanned ones, were never given a title or author, so those fields are simply empty in the file.
Can I edit the metadata with this tool?
No, this is a viewer only. It reads the properties without changing the file in any way.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and parsed entirely in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
The dates look odd. Why?
PDF dates store the author's timezone offset from the original machine. If the creator app wrote a wrong or missing timezone, the displayed local time can look shifted by a few hours.
