The leap year rule

A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400. That is why 2000 was a leap year but 1900 was not, and why 2100 will not be one.

The extra day keeps the calendar aligned with Earth's orbit, which takes about 365.2422 days, not exactly 365.

No. 2026 is not divisible by 4, so it has 365 days. The leap years around it are 2024 and 2028.
Why isn't every year divisible by 4 a leap year?
Because the solar year is slightly shorter than 365.25 days. Skipping leap years on century years not divisible by 400 (like 1900 and 2100) corrects the drift.
Was 2000 a leap year?
Yes. Although it is a century year, it is divisible by 400, which restores its leap status under the Gregorian rule.
Will 2100 be a leap year?
