Why re-encoding works

EXIF, GPS, and XMP metadata live in header segments around the pixel data. Drawing the photo to a canvas reads only the pixels, and exporting the canvas writes a brand-new file with fresh, empty headers. The image itself is untouched, only the hidden data is gone.

What gets removed

GPS coordinates, camera make and model, lens info, exposure settings, date taken, embedded thumbnails, and editing history. If you share photos publicly, stripping this is a simple privacy win.

EXIF Remover FAQs

Does this delete GPS location from my photo?
Yes. GPS coordinates stored in EXIF are removed along with all other metadata. The clean file contains no location data.
Will the image quality change?
Pixels are copied exactly. JPEG output uses 95% quality to avoid visible loss; PNG output is lossless. The file size may shrink because metadata and thumbnails are dropped.
Can I check that metadata is really gone?
Yes. Open the downloaded file's properties or an EXIF viewer online; camera, GPS, and date fields will be empty.
Does this work on screenshots?
Yes, though screenshots rarely carry EXIF. It still normalizes the file and removes any software tags.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Re-encoding happens on a canvas in your browser; nothing leaves your device.
