Electricity Cost Calc

Calculate electricity costs for free. Enter an appliance wattage, daily usage and your kWh rate to see daily, monthly and yearly running costs.

Appliance usage

Enter the appliance specs and your electricity rate.

Check the label on the appliance, e.g. 1500 W for a kettle.
Find it on your electricity bill, e.g. 0.15 per kWh.

How the math works

Energy equals power times time: watts multiplied by hours, divided by 1000, gives kilowatt-hours. Multiply by your price per kWh and you have the cost. The tool extends this to monthly and yearly figures.

The hours field accepts decimals, so 12 minutes is 0.2 hours. Find wattage on the appliance label or its manual.

Cutting the biggest costs

Heating and cooling appliances (heaters, AC, water heaters, kettles) use the most power by far. Shaving minutes off their daily runtime saves more than unplugging a dozen phone chargers.

Your kWh price is on your bill; rates often vary by time of day, so running heavy appliances off-peak can cut costs without changing habits.

Electricity Cost Calc FAQs

Where do I find my kWh price?
On your electricity bill, usually listed as the energy charge per kWh. Some bills show tiered rates; use your average or marginal tier.
What wattage should I enter?
The rated wattage on the appliance label. Real draw varies (a fridge cycles on and off), so treat the result as an estimate for cycling devices.
How much does standby power cost?
A 10 W device left on 24/7 uses about 7 kWh per month. At typical rates that is around a dollar, small alone but real across many devices.
Does voltage matter for the calculation?
No. Wattage already accounts for voltage and current, so the same formula works on 110 V and 230 V systems.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. All calculations run locally in your browser.
