How browser zipping works

Files are read into memory and compressed with the DEFLATE algorithm via the JSZip library, the same format desktop zippers use. The resulting archive opens in Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android without any special software.

Compression levels

Maximum squeezes text and documents smallest but takes longer. Balanced suits everyday use. Store skips compression for already-compressed files like MP4 or existing ZIPs, which barely shrink anyway.

Is there a size limit?
The practical limit is your device memory. A few hundred MB works on desktops; very large archives may slow down phones.
Are duplicate file names handled?
Yes. If two files share a name, the second is renamed with (1), (2), and so on, so nothing is overwritten inside the archive.
Can I add password protection?
No. This tool creates standard unencrypted ZIPs. For sensitive files, encrypt them before zipping.
Why is my ZIP barely smaller?
Photos, videos, and existing ZIPs are already compressed, so DEFLATE cannot shrink them much. Documents and text shrink dramatically.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser; files never leave your device.
