Why two tones

Your left ear hears the carrier frequency and your right ear hears it plus the beat amount. The brain perceives the difference as a slow pulsing, for example 200 and 210 Hz create a 10 Hz pulse. This only works with headphones, since speakers mix both tones before they reach your ears.

The presets

Delta (2 Hz) is linked with deep sleep, theta (6 Hz) with meditation, alpha (10 Hz) with relaxed wakefulness, beta (20 Hz) with active focus, and gamma (40 Hz) with high alertness. Effects vary person to person; treat it as ambiance, not therapy.

Binaural Beats FAQs

Do I need headphones?
Yes, absolutely. Binaural beats require each ear to receive a different tone, which speakers cannot do.
Which preset helps focus?
Beta around 14 to 20 Hz is the popular choice for study and work. Alpha 10 Hz suits relaxed reading.
Is this scientifically proven?
Evidence is mixed and effects are subtle. It is best treated as pleasant background audio, not medical treatment.
Can I fall asleep to delta waves?
Many people do use low beats as sleep ambience. Keep the volume low and use a sleep timer on your device.
Does this work offline?
Yes. The tones are synthesized live with the Web Audio API on your device.
