How fading works

The tool decodes your file with the Web Audio API and re-renders it through a gain envelope: volume ramps smoothly from silence to full over the fade-in length, holds steady, then ramps back to silence over the fade-out length. The render is sample-accurate, so the fade lands exactly where you set it.

About the WAV download

The result is exported as uncompressed 16-bit WAV at the original sample rate and channel count. WAV is large but lossless, and every editor and player opens it. The preview player lets you check the fade before downloading.

Audio Fade Tool FAQs

What fade lengths should I use?
2-3 seconds is typical for songs and voice intros. Shorter fades (0.5-1s) just remove harsh starts; longer fades (5-10s) suit ambient outros.
Why is the download a WAV, not MP3?
Browsers can encode WAV natively with no libraries. MP3 encoding needs extra code; convert the WAV to MP3 in any audio editor if you need a smaller file.
Does it change the audio quality?
No. Only the volume envelope changes; the underlying audio is re-rendered losslessly at the original sample rate.
What files can I upload?
Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A/AAC in most browsers. Very long files may take a while to render.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding, fading and encoding all happen locally in your browser.
