How the conversion works

Paste your XML on the left and press Convert. The tool first parses the XML (treating each child of the root element as a row, keeping attributes as @-prefixed columns) into an internal table of rows and columns, then writes it out as CSV (quoting cells per RFC 4180). If the input cannot be parsed you get a plain-English error instead of a broken file.

Where this comes in handy

People reach for this converter when pulling records out of XML feeds, sitemaps or API responses and a spreadsheet-friendly file is needed. Because everything runs locally in your browser, it is also handy for quick one-off migrations without installing database tools or writing throwaway scripts.

XML to CSV FAQs

What if my XML uses namespaces like ns:tag?
Namespaced tags are kept as-is for the column name, and any characters that are illegal in the target format are replaced with underscores.
Does it handle nested XML structures?
One level of nesting is flattened: every child element of the root becomes a row. Deeper structures are serialized as text inside their cell so nothing silently disappears.
Does the CSV include a header row?
Yes. The first line holds the column names, followed by one line per data row.
How are commas inside cells handled?
Cells containing commas, quotes or line breaks are wrapped in double quotes per RFC 4180, so Excel and Google Sheets open the file cleanly.
Is there a size limit?
No hard limit, but very large pastes (tens of megabytes) can slow down the browser tab. For huge inputs, split them into smaller chunks.
