How it works

Paste a page's head HTML (or the whole document) and press Check viewport. The tool finds the viewport meta tag, parses its content directives, and grades them: missing tags, fixed widths, disabled zoom and low maximum-scale values are each flagged with a plain explanation and a score out of 100. The Check this page button audits the page you are on right now.

What a good tag looks like

For nearly every responsive site the correct tag is width=device-width, initial-scale=1, with zoom left enabled. Anything that disables user scaling fails accessibility checks and can hurt mobile usability scores, so the audit treats it as an error, not a preference.

Viewport Meta Check FAQs

What score should I aim for?
100, which means width=device-width, initial-scale set, and zoom enabled. Anything under 85 has a real problem worth fixing.
Is user-scalable=no really that bad?
Yes. It blocks pinch-to-zoom, which many low-vision users depend on. Accessibility guidelines treat it as a failure.
What if there are two viewport tags?
Browsers use only the first and ignore the rest. Remove the duplicates so the intent is clear.
Can it check a live URL?
No. Browsers block cross-site fetching, so paste the page's HTML source instead. View source, copy the head, paste it here.
Is this audit free?
Yes, free with no sign-up, running entirely in your browser.
