How frame capture works

Your video plays in a local player element. Moving the scrub slider seeks to an exact timestamp; pressing capture paints the current video frame onto a canvas at full native resolution, which becomes a downloadable PNG. No re-encoding, no quality loss, no server round-trip.

Getting a sharp thumbnail

Pause on a moment with little motion for the crispest still, since video frames during fast movement carry motion blur. Scrub in small steps around scene changes to find clean, well-lit frames.

Thumbnail Extractor FAQs

What resolution is the captured image?
The video's native resolution. A 1080p video yields a 1920x1080 PNG, exactly the pixels in that frame with no upscaling.
Why is the slider imprecise on long videos?
Browsers seek to the nearest keyframe, then decode forward, so very long videos may land slightly off your target. Nudge in small steps for fine control.
Can I capture multiple frames at once?
One at a time: capture, download, scrub to the next moment, capture again. Batch extraction is a job for desktop tools like ffmpeg.
Does it work with DRM-protected videos?
No. Protected streams render to a black canvas by design. It works with your own video files: MP4, WebM, MOV and similar.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened locally and every step, from seeking to PNG export, happens in your tab.
