Why unit price beats sticker price

The bigger pack usually looks more expensive and often is cheaper per unit, but not always: manufacturers know shoppers assume bulk wins. Dividing price by quantity is the only honest comparison, and it takes two seconds here.

Keep the units identical

Compare ounces to ounces, or count to count. If one pack lists weight and the other lists pieces, convert first or the comparison is meaningless. The tool compares the raw numbers you enter.

Unit Price Calculator FAQs

What is unit price?
The cost of a single unit of a product: price divided by quantity. A $4.99 pack of 12 costs about $0.4158 per item.
How do I know which pack is the better deal?
Compute the unit price of each and pick the lower one. A higher total price can still be the better deal if the quantity is much larger.
Should I always buy the bigger pack?
Usually but not always. Bulk packs sometimes carry a higher unit price, and perishables can spoil before you finish them, wiping out the savings.
Can I compare different units, like ounces vs grams?
Convert to one unit first. The calculator divides the numbers you give it, so mixed units produce a meaningless answer.
