How the test works

Press start and a passage appears. Type it character by character: correct keystrokes turn green, mistakes turn red, and the timer counts down. When time runs out (or you finish the passage, which loads a fresh one), you get words per minute, accuracy and character counts.

What WPM means

WPM divides your correct characters by five, the conventional word length, then by minutes elapsed. Around 40 WPM is average, 60+ is solid for office work, and 80+ puts you well above most typists. Accuracy matters as much as speed: fast with errors is slower in practice.

Typing Test FAQs

How is WPM calculated?
Correct characters divided by 5 (one standard word), divided by minutes spent. Only correct keystrokes count toward the character total.
What is a good typing speed?
About 40 WPM is average. 60 to 80 WPM is good for most professional work, and competitive typists exceed 100 WPM with high accuracy.
Why did a new passage appear mid-test?
If you finish the passage before time runs out, a fresh one loads automatically so you can keep typing until the timer ends.
Does backspace fix mistakes?
Yes, backspace removes your last keystroke so you can correct it. The character still counts as typed for accuracy purposes.
Is my typing data recorded?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
