How t.me share links work

Telegram's share endpoint lives at t.me/share/url and takes two parameters: url, the link being shared, and text, the accompanying message. Opening it launches Telegram's share sheet with both fields prefilled, so the user just picks a chat.

Share links versus bots

Share links need no bot token, no API key and no backend: they are plain URLs you can hardcode into any page. Bots are for receiving messages and automation; share links are purely for sending content out to Telegram chats.

Telegram Share Link FAQs

Does the recipient need my contact?
No. The share sheet lets the sender pick any of their own chats, groups or channels. Your link never exposes your phone number or username to anyone.
Can I prefill a link to a Telegram channel?
Yes, put the channel invite link or public t.me link in the URL field. Recipients tap it inside Telegram and land straight on the channel.
Why is my text showing encoded characters?
Both parameters must be URL-encoded. This tool encodes them automatically; if you hand-write the link, encode spaces as %20 and special characters with encodeURIComponent.
Can I add hashtags to the shared text?
Yes, include them in the message text field. They are encoded with the rest of the text and render as clickable hashtags when posted in Telegram chats.
Do share links work on desktop Telegram?
Yes, t.me links open in Telegram Desktop, the web app, or prompt an install if Telegram is missing. One link covers mobile and desktop users.
