TDEE calculator

Your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is every calorie you burn in a day: resting metabolism plus movement, exercise, and digestion. It is the single number that decides whether you gain, lose, or maintain weight.

How TDEE is built

TDEE starts from your BMR, then multiplies by an activity factor: 1.2 for sedentary, 1.375 for light exercise, 1.55 for moderate, 1.725 for very active, up to 1.9 for hard daily training. The gap between BMR and TDEE is your activity burn, shown separately in the results.

Using TDEE for weight goals

Eat at TDEE to maintain, subtract 300 to 500 calories to lose roughly 0.3 to 0.5 kg per week, or add 250 to 350 to gain lean mass. Because activity estimates are the weakest link, track weight for two weeks and adjust.

TDEE Calculator FAQs

What is TDEE?
Total daily energy expenditure: BMR plus calories from daily movement, workouts, and digesting food. It is your maintenance calorie number.
Which activity level should I pick?
Be honest. A desk worker who trains 3 times a week is moderate (1.55), not very active. Most people overestimate by one level, which stalls fat loss.
Why does my TDEE seem too high?
Overpicked activity level is the usual cause. Drop one level and watch the scale for 2 weeks; the trend tells you your real TDEE.
Does TDEE change as I lose weight?
Yes, it falls as you get lighter and as adaptive thermogenesis kicks in. Recalculate every 5 kg lost or your deficit silently shrinks.
Can I eat back exercise calories on top of TDEE?
No, they are already included. Adding them again double counts and is the most common reason calorie tracking fails.
