How the preview works

Type your title tag, URL and meta description and both previews render instantly in Google's current visual style. Titles are measured in pixels with a real canvas, because Google truncates by width (about 600 px on desktop), not by character count: wide letters like W eat the budget faster.

Descriptions are truncated the way Google does, with warnings when your text will be cut off.

Writing snippets that earn clicks

Front-load the important words: put the primary keyword and the benefit in the first half of the title and description, since truncation cuts from the end. Keep titles under about 580 px and descriptions around 150 to 160 characters.

Match the snippet to the page's actual content. A clever description that the page does not deliver raises bounce rates instead of clicks.

SERP Previewer FAQs

Why measure title width in pixels instead of characters?
Google truncates titles by rendered width, roughly 600 px on desktop. A title of skinny i's fits far more characters than one full of wide W's, so pixel measurement is the only accurate check.
How long should my meta description be?
Aim for 150 to 160 characters. Google sometimes shows longer snippets, but 155 is the safe zone where truncation is rare on both desktop and mobile.
Does Google always use my meta description?
No. Google rewrites or replaces descriptions when it thinks page content matches the query better. A good description is still worth writing: it is used often and controls your best-case pitch.
Why is my URL shown as breadcrumbs?
Google displays the site name and breadcrumb path rather than the raw URL when it can parse them. The preview mirrors that modern display.
Will a better snippet improve my ranking?
Not directly; snippets do not change rankings. But a clearer, more clickable snippet raises click-through rate, which brings more of your existing ranking's traffic to you.
