How the draw works

The draw uses Sattolo's algorithm, a shuffle that guarantees nobody is assigned to themselves. Every participant gives to exactly one person and receives from exactly one person, forming one big gift-giving circle. After the draw, pairs stay hidden until you reveal them one by one with the Reveal next button.

Running a smooth gift exchange

  • Reveal privately: let each person read their own pair, then move on.
  • Set a budget: agree on a spending limit before the draw.
  • At least 3 people: two people cannot do secret santa, the tool needs 3 or more.
  • Start over any time: the Start over button clears everything for a fresh draw.

Can someone get their own name?
No. The draw uses Sattolo's algorithm, which mathematically guarantees nobody is assigned to themselves.
How many people can join?
At least 3. There is no strict upper limit; the tool handles large groups fine. Two people cannot do secret santa because each would simply get the other.
How does the reveal work?
Pairs are hidden after the draw. Press Reveal next to show one giver-receiver pair at a time, so each person can privately note who they got.
Is the draw truly random?
Yes. The shuffle uses the browser's random number generator, so every valid assignment circle is equally likely.
Are the names stored anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser. Refreshing the page wipes the draw completely.
