How it works

RTF (Rich Text Format) is plain text with markup commands like \b for bold and \par for paragraphs. This tool parses those commands: formatting instructions are dropped, paragraph and line breaks become real newlines, special characters (quotes, dashes, bullets, Unicode escapes) are decoded, and you get clean readable text back. It also accepts pasted raw RTF or an uploaded .rtf file.

What it preserves

You get the words, the paragraph structure and the punctuation, but not fonts, colors, sizes or images. That is intentional: the output is plain text for pasting into emails, notes, code or anywhere formatting would get in the way.

RTF to Text FAQs

What is RTF?
Rich Text Format, a document format used by WordPad and many older word processors. It looks like plain text with backslash commands such as \b and \par mixed in.
Will images in my RTF be converted?
No. Images are skipped; only the text content is extracted into the plain-text output.
Can I upload an .rtf file?
Yes. Use the Upload button to load an .rtf file directly, or paste the raw RTF code into the input box.
Does it handle Unicode characters?
Yes. Unicode escape sequences (\u) and hex escapes (\') are decoded into proper characters.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your text never leaves your device.
