What counts as punctuation

The tool removes anything that is not a letter, number, or whitespace: commas, periods, quotes, brackets, dashes, symbols like @ and #, and Unicode punctuation too. Accented letters like e with an accent are kept because they are letters.

Useful for text analysis

Stripping punctuation is a standard first step in word-frequency analysis, search indexing, and NLP preprocessing, where punctuation would otherwise split or pollute tokens.

Remove Punctuation FAQs

Which characters are removed?
All punctuation: commas, periods, colons, semicolons, quotes, brackets, dashes, slashes, and symbols such as @, #, $, %, and &. Letters, digits, and spaces stay.
Does it remove accented letters?
No. Accented characters like e, u, and n are Unicode letters, not punctuation, so they are preserved. Use Remove Accents if you also want those normalized.
Will it join words together?
No. Spaces are kept, so words stay separated. Only the punctuation characters themselves are deleted.
Can I remove punctuation from a whole article?
Yes. Paste the full text and it processes everything at once with no length limit.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste ever leaves your device.
