What counts as non-ASCII

Anything outside the 128-character ASCII set is removed: accented letters, emoji, CJK characters, curly quotes, em dashes, and invisible Unicode like zero-width spaces. Plain A to Z, 0 to 9, and standard punctuation stay.

Why restrict to ASCII

Legacy systems, old databases, fixed-width file formats, and some APIs only accept ASCII. Stripping everything else prevents encoding errors and mojibake downstream.

Remove Non-ASCII FAQs

What happens to accented letters?
They are removed entirely, not converted: café becomes caf. If you want café to become cafe instead, use the Remove Accents tool first.
Does it remove emoji?
Yes. All emoji are non-ASCII, so they are deleted along with every other Unicode character.
Are line breaks kept?
Yes. Newlines, tabs, and carriage returns are ASCII control characters and are preserved.
Will it fix mojibake?
No. Mojibake is already-decoded wrong text made of ASCII-looking characters; this tool only removes characters outside ASCII, it cannot re-decode them.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste ever leaves your device.
