How accent removal works

The tool decomposes each character into its base letter plus combining marks, then deletes the marks. e becomes e, n becomes n, and c becomes c, across Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, and other scripts.

Why normalize accents

Unaccented text is easier to search, sort, and match: database lookups, URL slugs, and file names all behave more predictably without diacritics.

Remove Accents FAQs

What does it turn café into?
cafe. The acute accent is stripped and the base letter e remains. résumé becomes resume and naïve becomes naive.
Does it work on non-Latin scripts?
Yes. Combining marks are removed from any script, including Greek polytonic accents and Cyrillic stress marks, wherever Unicode decomposition applies.
Will it change the letter ñ?
ñ becomes n. The tilde is a combining mark, so it is removed and the base letter n stays.
What about characters with no plain equivalent?
Characters like ß or ø are single letters, not a base plus mark, so they pass through unchanged. The tool only strips true diacritical marks.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste ever leaves your device.
