Interpolation between ranks

The kth percentile is the value below which k percent of the data falls. The tool sorts the data, computes the fractional rank (k/100)(n-1), and linearly interpolates between the two nearest values, the same method most statistics software uses by default.

Percentiles you already know

The 50th percentile is the median, the 25th and 75th are the quartiles. Test scores, growth charts, and salary bands all speak in percentiles because they describe position without assuming any particular distribution shape.

Percentile Calc FAQs

What is the 90th percentile of 4, 7, 9, 11, 12, 15, 19, 22?
About 19.9 with linear interpolation. The data is preloaded with k = 90.
What is the percentile formula?
Sort the data, take rank = (k/100)(n-1), then interpolate between the values at the floor and ceiling of that rank.
What is the difference between percent and percentile?
A percent is a proportion of a whole; a percentile is a position in a dataset. Scoring in the 90th percentile means beating 90% of values.
What is the 50th percentile?
The median. The tool shows it next to every result for context.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Sorting and interpolation run entirely in your browser.
