Three calculations in one

X% of Y answers questions like "what is 20% of 150?" X is what % of Y answers "30 is what percent of 150?" Percent change answers "prices went from $80 to $100: how much did they rise?" Pick the mode that matches your question and the math updates as you type.

Percent change, signed

Percent change can be positive or negative: a rise shows with a +, a drop shows as a negative number. It is always measured against the old value, which is why going from 100 to 150 (+50%) and back from 150 to 100 (-33.3%) are not symmetric.

Percentage Calculator FAQs

How do I calculate X percent of Y?
Divide X by 100 and multiply by Y. For example, 20% of 150 is (20 / 100) x 150 = 30.
How do I find what percentage one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 30 as a percentage of 150 is (30 / 150) x 100 = 20%.
How is percent change calculated?
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. From 80 to 100 that is ((100 - 80) / 80) x 100 = +25%.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
A move from 20% to 25% is a 5 percentage point increase, but a 25% relative increase. Mixing the two up is one of the most common statistics mistakes.
