How PayPal.me links are structured

A PayPal.me link is paypal.com/paypalme/username/amountCURRENCY, for example /janedoe/25USD. The amount segment is optional: without it the payer types their own amount. An optional note parameter prefills the payment memo.

Prefilled amounts and trust

Prefilling the amount removes a step and prevents underpayment on invoices, and PayPal always shows the payer a confirmation screen with the total. Never share a link with an amount you have not double-checked, since payers rarely question a prefilled figure.

PayPal Link Builder FAQs

Where do I find my PayPal.me username?
In PayPal go to Settings, then PayPal.me, or visit paypal.me and create your link. It is usually your name or business name; you cannot change it later, so pick carefully.
Do I pay fees on PayPal.me payments?
Payments marked as goods and services carry PayPal's standard receiving fee, which varies by country. Friends and family payments are usually free domestically. Check PayPal's fee page for your region.
Can buyers pay without a PayPal account?
In many countries guests can pay by card without signing up, but PayPal sometimes requires an account depending on the amount and region. Mention this to customers who hesitate at checkout.
What currencies can I request?
PayPal supports 25 plus currencies on PayPal.me links. The payer is charged in the link currency and PayPal converts if their balance differs, showing the conversion before they confirm.
Is it safe to post my PayPal.me link publicly?
Reasonably. It reveals only your chosen username, not your email or balance. Still, watch for fake payment confirmation emails, the classic scam against public payment links.
