Base times perpendicular height

A parallelogram is a slanted rectangle with the same area as the rectangle it would make if straightened: base x height. The height must be the perpendicular distance between the base sides, not the slanted side length, which is a common mistake the tool helps you avoid.

Perimeter needs the side

Perimeter walks around the shape, so it needs the slanted side length too: 2 x (base + side). Enter the side and the tool reports the perimeter next to the area.

Parallelogram Area FAQs

What is the area of a parallelogram with base 10 and height 6?
10 x 6 = 60. These are the default values.
Is the height the same as the side?
No. Height is the perpendicular distance between the bases; the side is the slanted edge. Using the side as the height overestimates the area.
What is the perimeter formula?
Perimeter = 2 x (base + side). With base 10 and side 7 the perimeter is 34.
Is a rectangle a parallelogram?
Yes, a special case where the height equals the side and all angles are right angles. The same formulas apply.
Does the tool send my numbers anywhere?
No. It runs entirely in your browser.
