How pace math works

Pace is simply time divided by distance: a 50-minute 10K is 5:00 per kilometer. Flip it and pace times distance predicts finish time; flip it again and time divided by pace gives distance. The calculator handles all three directions and converts the result into speed (km/h and mph) for good measure.

Using it for race day

Enter a goal pace to see what finish time it produces, then check whether that pace feels sustainable in training. Many runners also work backwards: plug in a recent race result to get a realistic pace target for the next one.

Pace Calculator FAQs

What format should I use for time?
Either mm:ss like 25:00 or hh:mm:ss like 1:30:00. A single number is treated as minutes.
How do I predict my marathon time?
Choose the finish-time mode, enter 42.195 km as the distance and your sustainable pace. Add a few percent as a buffer, since holding training pace for the full distance is optimistic.
What is a good running pace?
It depends on the distance and the runner. Recreational 5K runners often land between 6:00 and 8:00 per km; trained marathoners run under 5:00 per km.
Does it account for hills or heat?
No. The math assumes a constant pace on flat ground. Treat predictions as a baseline and adjust for course and conditions.
Can I use miles instead of kilometers?
Yes. Switch the distance unit and all pace figures switch to per-mile.
