What Open Graph tags do

When you share a link on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Discord or WhatsApp, the app fetches your page and looks for Open Graph meta tags to build the preview card: title, description and image. Without them, shares show a bare URL or a random snippet. These tags live in your page's <head> and take seconds to add.

About the preview

The preview card on this page approximates how major platforms lay out a shared link: image on top, site name, bold title and a two-line description. Real platforms cache previews aggressively, so after adding tags to a live page, use each network's debugger to refresh its cache.

OG Tag Generator FAQs

Where do I put these tags?
Inside the <head> section of your HTML page, before the closing </head> tag. Every page can have its own set so each shared link gets a unique preview.
What image size works best?
1200 by 630 pixels is the widely recommended size. It fills the large card layout on Facebook and LinkedIn without being cropped awkwardly.
What is the difference between og: tags and twitter: tags?
Open Graph tags are the standard most platforms read. Twitter Card tags are X's own variant; X falls back to OG tags when its own are missing, but including both guarantees the layout you want.
Why is my preview not updating after I added tags?
Platforms cache link previews. Paste your URL into Facebook's Sharing Debugger or X's Card Validator to force a fresh scrape.
Do these tags affect SEO?
Not directly for search rankings, but better-looking shares earn more clicks, which is its own reward.
