How base conversion works

Enter a number, choose the base it is written in and the base you want, and the result updates as you type. A swap button flips the direction instantly. Invalid digits for the chosen base produce a clear error instead of a wrong answer.

Arbitrary precision

Conversions use BigInt arithmetic, so even very long values convert exactly — no floating-point rounding, no 32-bit overflow. The All bases panel always shows the binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal forms side by side for quick reference.

Number Base Converter FAQs

Which bases are supported?
Binary (2), octal (8), decimal (10) and hexadecimal (16) — the four bases developers use most.
Can I paste hex with a 0x prefix?
Yes. A leading 0x or 0X is stripped automatically, and underscores in digit groups are ignored.
Does it handle negative numbers?
Yes. Prefix the input with a minus sign and the result keeps the sign in the target base.
Is there a size limit?
No practical one. BigInt math handles hundreds of digits exactly, far beyond Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER.
Is my input sent anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded or logged.
