How military time works
Military time uses the 24-hour clock: hours run from 00 (midnight) to 23 (11 PM). To convert to regular time, subtract 12 from any hour above 12 and add PM. Hours 00 to 11 are AM, with 00 counting as 12 AM and 12 counting as 12 PM (noon).
Writing rules
Midnight is 0000 (12:00 AM).
Noon is 1200 (12:00 PM).
Written without a colon: 1345, not 13:45, though the converter accepts both.
Military time is the 24-hour clock used by the military, hospitals, aviation and many countries. Hours run from 00 to 23, so 1 PM is written as 1300 and midnight as 0000.
How do I convert military time to regular time?
For hours above 12, subtract 12 and add PM: 1500 minus 12 is 3, so it is 3:00 PM. Hours 00 to 11 are AM, with 00 counting as 12 AM. Noon is 1200, written 12:00 PM.
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
Both appear in practice. The military generally uses 0000 for the start of a new day and sometimes 2400 for the end of a day. This converter reads midnight as 0000 and converts it to 12:00 AM.
What is 1300 in regular time?
1300 is 1:00 PM. Subtract 12 from any hour from 13 to 23 to get the PM equivalent: 1400 is 2:00 PM, 2000 is 8:00 PM, and so on.
