How the conversion works

Paste your MD Table on the left and press Convert. The tool first parses the MD Table (reading the header row, the --- separator and each data row, honoring \| escapes) into an internal table of rows and columns, then writes it out as JSONL (writing one compact JSON object per line). If the input cannot be parsed you get a plain-English error instead of a broken file.

Where this comes in handy

People reach for this converter when reusing tables from READMEs, wikis or notes and line-delimited JSON is needed for data pipelines. Because everything runs locally in your browser, it is also handy for quick one-off migrations without installing database tools or writing throwaway scripts.

MD Table to JSONL FAQs

Does the separator row matter?
Yes. The line of dashes (---) marks where the header ends and the data begins. Alignment hints like :---: or ---: are accepted and ignored.
How do I put a pipe character inside a cell?
Escape it with a backslash (\|) and it is treated as cell text instead of a column divider.
Is there a trailing newline at the end?
No. Lines are joined with newlines and there is no extra blank line at the end of the file.
How is each line structured?
Each line is one compact JSON object. For table inputs the keys are the column names; for document inputs like TOML each line holds one nested object.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your data never leaves your device.
