The four operations

Addition adds matching cells. Multiplication uses the row-by-column rule (A rows times B columns). The determinant is a single number summarizing the matrix — zero means no inverse exists. The inverse is the matrix that undoes the original, computed via the adjugate divided by the determinant.

How to use it

Pick an operation tab and a size, type numbers into the grids (decimals allowed), and hit Calculate. Addition and multiplication need both Matrix A and B; determinant and inverse use A only. Singular matrices report a clear error instead of a wrong answer.

Matrix Calculator FAQs

What sizes are supported?
2x2 and 3x3. These cover the vast majority of homework, graphics and engineering use cases.
Can I enter decimals and negatives?
Yes. Any real number works, including decimals and negative values.
Why does inverse fail sometimes?
A matrix has no inverse when its determinant is zero (a singular matrix). The tool detects this and explains instead of returning garbage.
How precise are the results?
Results are rounded to 4 decimal places for display; the underlying math uses full double precision.
Is my input stored anywhere?
No. All computation happens locally in your browser.
