How mailto parameters work

A mailto link is mailto:address followed by query parameters: subject, body, cc and bcc. Everything after the question mark must be URL-encoded, which is why this tool encodes your text automatically instead of making you do it by hand.

Line breaks in the body

Newlines in your body text become %0A when encoded, and email clients render them as real line breaks. Write the body naturally with Enter key breaks in the textarea above; the tool handles the encoding.

Can I add multiple recipients?
Yes. Separate addresses with commas in the To field, like a@example.com, b@example.com. The same works for cc and bcc fields.
Why does the link open the wrong email app?
mailto links open the system's default email client, which the user controls. On phones it is usually Gmail or Apple Mail; on desktops it may be Outlook or Thunderbird.
Is there a length limit for mailto links?
Practically yes: keep the whole link under about 2000 characters. Very long prefilled bodies can get truncated by some browsers, so keep bodies concise.
Can mailto include HTML formatting?
No. The body parameter is plain text only; HTML tags will show as literal text. For rich formatted emails you need a backend mail service, not a mailto link.
Do mailto links expose my email to spammers?
Yes, any email address in page HTML can be harvested by bots. For public pages consider a contact form instead, or obfuscate the address with JavaScript.
