What you can preview

Images render directly, audio and video get native players, PDFs open in an embedded viewer, and text-based files (code, logs, Markdown, CSV) show as readable text with long files truncated. Every other file type still yields its full metadata: name, size, MIME type and modification date.

Truly local

The file is read with your browser's File API into a temporary local URL; no bytes ever travel over the network. That makes this the safe way to peek at downloads and attachments you are unsure about, without uploading them anywhere.

Local File Previewer FAQs

Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Previews are generated from a temporary local URL in your browser's memory. Nothing leaves your device.
What is the maximum file size?
There is no set limit, but very large videos may strain memory. The metadata table works for any size since it reads only file attributes.
Why is my text file truncated?
Text previews are capped at 20,000 characters to keep the page responsive. The file itself is unaffected.
Can I preview Word or Excel files?
Not directly. Convert them to PDF first, or copy their text content, to preview here.
Does this work offline?
Yes. Once the page loads, file reading and previewing need no internet connection at all.
