What it does

Paste any list, one item per line, and choose an operation: alphabetical sort in either direction, numeric sort, sort by line length, reverse or random shuffle. Optional cleanups remove duplicate lines, blank lines and stray whitespace, and sorting can ignore case so Apple and apple sit together.

The result updates live as you type and a line counter keeps track of the output size.

Handy use cases

Writers alphabetize keyword lists, developers sort config entries and de-dupe log lines, teachers shuffle quiz questions, and spreadsheet users clean pasted columns before re-importing.

Because it runs locally, you can safely sort private data like email lists or inventory SKUs without uploading them anywhere.

Line Sorter FAQs

How do I sort lines alphabetically?
Paste your lines, pick Sort A to Z (or Z to A), and the result updates instantly. Keep case-insensitive sort ticked so capitalized and lowercase entries mix correctly.
Can it remove duplicate lines?
Yes. Tick Remove duplicate lines and every repeated line is collapsed to its first occurrence. Combined with sorting, it produces a clean unique list.
How does numeric sort handle mixed text?
Numeric sort compares the leading number of each line with parseFloat, so 2 comes before 10. Lines without numbers are treated as zero and float to the top.
Is the shuffle truly random?
It uses the Fisher-Yates algorithm with Math.random, which is plenty random for shuffling quiz questions, giveaways or playlists. It is not cryptographic randomness.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. All sorting happens in JavaScript in your browser. Your lists never leave your device.
