How numbering works

The tool splits your text into lines and prefixes each one with a running number. You control the separator that sits between the number and the text, the number to start from, and whether blank lines get a number or are left alone. Everything updates the moment you type or paste.

Common uses

Numbered lines make code easier to discuss in reviews, give legal and contract drafts stable reference points, and help teachers mark student work. Zero-padding keeps the numbers aligned in monospace fonts for a tidy look.

Line Numbering Tool FAQs

Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?
Yes. Set the start field to any number, which is handy when you are numbering a continuation of an earlier block.
What separators are available?
Colon, dot, closing parenthesis, pipe and tab. The tab option lines text up neatly in editors and spreadsheets.
Does it skip blank lines?
Only if you tick the box. By default every line, including empty ones, receives a number so the numbering matches the original line positions.
Is there a text length limit?
No. Numbering runs in your browser and handles very long documents comfortably.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally on your device, nothing is uploaded.
